Safety

Both the Mustang Mach-E and the Polestar 3 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E achieved a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the 2026 model year. This recognition was based on its impressive performance in the small overlap frontal crash test, updated moderate overlap front crash test, updated side impact crash test, headlight evaluations, pedestrian crash prevention testing, and vehicle-to-vehicle crash prevention testing. The Polestar 3 has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2026.

Warranty

Ford’s powertrain warranty covers the Mustang Mach-E 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Polestar covers the 3. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the Polestar 3 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 91 times as many Ford dealers as there are Polestar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Mustang Mach-E’s warranty.

Engine

The Mustang Mach-E GT Performance/Rally’s electric motors produces 58 lbs.-ft. more torque (700 vs. 642) than the Polestar 3 Performance Package’s optional electric motors.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the Mustang Mach-E’s turning circle is .7 feet tighter than the Polestar 3’s (38.1 feet vs. 38.8 feet).

Chassis

The Ford Mustang Mach-E may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 900 to 1300 pounds less than the Polestar 3.

The Mustang Mach-E Select/Premium is 7.3 inches shorter than the Polestar 3, making the Mustang Mach-E easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the Mustang Mach-E uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Polestar 3 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Cargo Capacity

The Mustang Mach-E has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Polestar 3 with its rear seat up (29.7 vs. 17.1 cubic feet). The Mustang Mach-E has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Polestar 3 with its rear seat folded (59.7 vs. 50 cubic feet).

Ergonomics

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Mustang Mach-E’s exterior PIN entry system. The Polestar 3 doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system, and its Polestar Connect can’t unlock the doors if the vehicle doesn’t have cell phone reception or the driver can’t contact the service.

The Mustang Mach-E’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Polestar 3’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Ford Mustang Mach-E, based on reliability, safety and performance.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the Mustang Mach-E as the 2021 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. The Polestar 3 has never been chosen.
